Pemangkin to cooperate with cops over Yapiem's police report

Orphans' foundation Pemangkin said the police report lodged against two of its founders by Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (Yapeim) was an attempt to silence it, but will cooperate with the authorities.

It views the police report as an abuse of the legal process to pressure its founders from taking Yapeim to court over alleged mismanagement of Pemangkin funds by Yapeim nominees.

"Pemangkin founders Mohd Yusoff A Bakar and Ahmad Fazif Hashim have said that they will cooperate with any police investigations that may come," said the foundation in a statement yesterday.

They also vowed to continue their legal action against Yapiem and its nominees over the matter, including lodging their own police report, as well as continuing with their planned suit and appeal against a Yapiem injunction freezing their accounts.

"Our suit will be served on them once it is extracted from the court," read the statement.

Pemangkin reiterated that there was no abuse or graft in its management after Yapiem nominees were successfully removed.

It said that it is an independent entity removed from Yapeim's control, though its funds were allegedly made use of by Yapiem nominees without the consent or knowledge of the Pemangkin board of trustees.

Yesterday Umno-owned daily Utusan Malaysia reported that Yapiem lodged a police report over the alleged disappearance of over RM500,000 of Pemangkin funds last year.

Yapiem board member Shahlan Ismail lodged the police report at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters on Tuesday, claiming that he and Yapiem nominees were removed from Pemangkin management after they discovered the disappearance of the funds.

He also denied the accusations of mismanagement being leveled at himself and other Yapiem nominees who once held posts in Pemangkin.

Pemangkin claimed that it was filing a RM20 million lawsuit against Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom, Yapiem and others over alleged mismanagement of Pemangkin funds while Yapiem nominees were in charge of administering the foundation.

Yapiem responded that it did not receive any notification over the matter, and denied the allegations.

Pemangkin had also threatened to slap another lawsuit against Yapiem for making confusing statements and trying to stop it from reclaiming its rights via the legal arena.- Mkini
