Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today announced an allocation of RM12 million to equip the 40,000 members of Sabah's People Volunteer Corps (Rela) with digital camouflage fatigues.
Zahid, who is also Home Minister, said the Sabah government would be contributing RM6 million while the other RM6 million would come from his ministry.
"A total of RM6 million, RM3 million from the Sabah government and RM3 million from the Home Ministry will be channelled this year while the balance RM6 million next year," he said.
He said this when opening the national-level 45th anniversary celebration of Rela at Padang Merdeka Kota Kinabalu today.
Also present were Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman and Rela director-general Zulkifli Abidin.
Ahmad Zahid also announced that the state government had agreed to provide a 20-acre site in Sandakan to set up a Rela training centre for Sabah.
"Musa has approved the land. My ministry will make efforts to find the funds to build the training centre," he said.
