Sarawak PKR flays Ismail over ‘racist’ vitriol

Sarawak PKR has warned Umno supreme council member Ismail Sabri Yaakob and other BN leaders to not bring their brand of racial politics into the state.
This followed Ismail Sabri’s recent visit to Kuching, where he urged Sarawakians to back BN because the coalition will safeguard bumiputera rights and priviledges while the opposition parties would not.
In a statement today, Sarawak PKR chairperson Baru Bian said Ismail Sabri’s remarks were “shockingly racist”, aimed at dividing Malaysia along ethnic lines and fueling inter-ethnic resentment.
“This is incredibly irresponsible and immature of a minister and betrays the delusional supremacist mentality of this man.
“For Ismail Sabri to indulge in racist politicking, especially at a government event is a disgrace to the position he holds,” said Baru.
He said Ismail Sabri was a classic example of BN leaders who rely on fanning racial sentiments because they have nothing else to offer.
Baru urged all Sarawakians to reject “repugnant racists” who are trying to “poison” the electorate with divisive politics.
At a function in Kuching on Thursday, Ismail Sabri had claimed that if BN fails to win the next general election, a “DAP-led government” would be formed at that there will be an emphasis of equality for all races instead of a pro-bumiputera policy.

“Today’s ruling government is taking good care of the bumiputeras especially with policies protecting their rights and privileges but without hindering or limiting other races from becoming successful in the country.
“Or (would you rather have) a government by others who will deny bumiputera rights? Of the two options, I think we have no choice… if we want to maintain bumiputera rights, we have to maintain the BN government,” he added.
Ismail Sabri also claimed that the civil service would be trimmed if BN was no longer in power and many would be out of jobs.- Mkini
