SUSPICIOUS ASSASSINATION: AFTER SO LONG, SUDDENLY IGP SAYS ‘NEW LEADS’ DISCOVERED IN MURDER OF DEPUTY CUSTOMS D-G

KUALA LUMPUR – Police have discovered fresh leads in the murder of Deputy Customs Director-General Datuk Shaharuddin Ibrahim following the arrest of 34 Gang 36 members here.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the members were rounded up in an operation codenamed Ops Cantas Khas, which also saw the seizure of six pistols, one rifle, bullets and 10kg of drugs.
“We believe one of the confiscated weapons has connection to the murder of the Deputy Customs D-G.
“However, we are still running ballistics tests to verify this,” he said when contacted on Friday.
Khalid added that the gang was also responsible for several high-profile murder cases.
In a Tweet posted on Friday, Khalid congratulated the Special Task Force on Organised Crime (Stafoc) for the successful operation.
Shaharuddin, who headed the Customs and Internal Tax Unit Division, was a year away from retirement when he was shot on April 26 in 2013.
The Negri Sembilan-born Shaharuddin served the Department for over 30 years, where his work earned him the moniker “Mr Clean”.
