SELL ON, NAJIB: WITH ADENAN GONE, ABANG JO GIVES THE GO-AHEAD FOR CHINA SALES, WANTS RM32BIL FROM BEIJING

MIRI: Sarawak has targeted to bring in at least RM32bil in investments from China this year.

Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state is embarking on an aggressive drive to attract Chinese businessmen, industrialists and government-linked companies to invest in the state and China has the potential to become among the state’s biggest investors.

“Businessmen, industrialists and agencies from mainland China will play a big role in helping to propel Sarawak into the future.

“Malaysia is already getting some RM160bil in foreign direct investments from China.

“We foresee that we can secure at least 20 percent of those investments for our state,” he said at a Chinese New Year gathering organised by the Sarawak United Peoples Party (SUPP) Miri-Sibuti committee on Friday night.

Johari said Sarawak will also aggressively market its tourism, noting that the state has unrivaled beauty in its mountains, beaches, caves, jungles and rivers.

“When it comes to tourism promotions in China, we will go big in promoting our natural assets.

“There is a big market for China tourists who are keen on enjoying nature and adventure.

“Sarawak have all these beautiful assets, and Miri will be the entry point from the north,” said Johari, who is also State Tourism Minister.
