Azmin mystified with query over ‘lebai’ photo

Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali was mystified when he was queried about why he changed his profile pictures on social media to one of him wearing a skullcap, which is also referred to as ‘lebai’ in Malay.
“If I change (profile pictures) it is wrong, if I don’t it is also wrong. If I smile it is wrong, if I don't smile it is also wrong. So how should it be?" he shot back at reporters
He was met after opening the Community Basketball Tournament in Batu 11, Cheras.
The MB was asked on what motivated him to change his profile pictures on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to that particular one of him wearing a ‘lebai’.
Previously, the PKR deputy president used a profile picture of himself smiling while having a teh tarik with the public, sans any head covering.
Azmin’s move to change his social media profile pictures to one of him wearing a ‘lebai’ came just after he tweeted a comment lambasting a Pak Lebai (skullcap wearing man) who wanted to take over Selangor yet lost badly in his own turf.
While he did not name anyone, his tweet came soon after PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Aziz said that PAS, which had once agreed to PKR taking the lead in Selangor, may no longer give way in the next national polls.
Nik Abduh also just lost rather badly in the Pengkalan Chepa PAS divisonal polls, where he was trounced by the incumbent divisional deputy chief who garnered 207 votes to his 37.
In any case, Azmin urged the opposition parties not to jump conclusions and keep calm, and work to resolve any differences through sober discussion.
As far as PKR is concerned, he said, one should not cut off ties with any party, even if the other side does so.
Azmin also said that it is better for any contentions to be made in council and away from the eyes of the media, as open bickering will not benefit anyone.

Meanwhile, Azmin also advised Umno information chief Annuar Musa to use the RM50,000 he is offering as a prize in his ‘is it true (DAP veteran Lim) Kit Siang racist’ essay contest, for the benefit of the poor and needy.
“Does he have nothing else to do, I think the allocation should be given to the people who need it,” he said.
Annuar had initially boasted a RM10,000 prize for an essay competition for those who can write on ‘is it true that Lim is racist and a dictator’. He later increased the prize money to RM50,000.- Mkini
