In a tit-for-tat move, former law minister Zaid Ibrahim is offering RM10,000 as prize money for the best essay on Najib Abdul Razak being the country's "worst prime minister".
"I'm offering RM10,000 for the best essay on Najib as the worst PM this country has ever had. Other terms and conditions apply," he tweeted this afternoon.
Zaid's offer comes in the wake of Umno information chief Annuar Musa's announcement that RM10,000 would be presented for the best essay or social media posting on DAP leader Lim Kit Siang.
Annuar told reporters in Parliament earlier that the title should be "LKS is a racist, anti-Islam and a dictator of 51 years, is this true?"
The Umno leader said this was in response to Kit Siang branding him the “father of racists”.
In a subsequent tweet, Zaid, who joined DAP recently, said participants must be “brutally honest” in depicting the prime minister's “failures and true character”.
“Of course in doing so you may end up in court,” he cautioned, claiming that in Malaysia, a person risked being charged if the prime minister felt insulted - but the PM and his supporters were free to run down others.
Contacted later, Zaid told Malaysiakini that he was serious about the offer.
“I am serious with the offer, but other conditions apply. They (those interested) can register their interest by emailing me at carbofree@gmail.com.
“The essay should be a minimum 10,000 words and it can be either in Bahasa Malaysia or English. Unlike Umno's offer, the essay can only be published entirely at my absolute discretion,” he said.- Mkini
