SHAH ALAM: Even though football in Malaysia is generally dominated by men, whether players or club owners, a woman given the mandate to lead a football team is making waves in the local scene.
Despite not being a familiar figure in the sport compared to her counterpart Tunku Tun Aminah of Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), Siti Zubaidah Abdul Jabar, 56, president of PKNS FC is fast gaining recognition as the woman behind the remarkable rise of  PKNS FC.
The PKNS chief corporate officer said she was initially stunned with her appointment as the football club’s president in 2014 as she was not exactly a big fan of the sport.
The Social Science graduate from Universiti Malaya, however, went for a crash course in football and now often goes down to the ground to be with the team.
In an exclusive interview with Bernama, she said she was able to ease herself into the role of leading the club probably because the players and manager of PKNS FC kept an open mind and accepted her as part of the team.
Siti Zubaidah has since made several revolutionary changes in her attempt to raise the squad’s standing in the local football scene.
As a result of her efforts, the second division PKNS FC emerged as runners-up in the 2016 FA Cup competition and the Premier League. The football club also earned  promotion to the Super League this season.
With these encouraging successes, Siti Zubaidah hopes to make PKNS FC the home of quality players.-FMT
