Umno man worries debate may negatively impact party

Umno supreme council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman is concerned that the debate between his party colleague Nazri Abdul Aziz and former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad may negatively impact Umno.
"I don't care about Mahathir, but what worries me is Nazri as he is a BN leader," he was quoted by Sinar Harian today.
According to Tajuddin, Nazri's move to proceed with the debate, which has been put off to April 7, could impact the party.
"This depends on what will take place … if they hurl accusations at each other, surely it is not going to bring positive effect," he said when attending an event at Sungai Manik yesterday.
Tajuddin, who is also the deputy agriculture and agro-based industry minister, said he hoped both leaders would discuss measures to help the people and develop the country.
"The people want to see fruitful policies and ideas brought by the two leaders and not a session to slam each other, especially when Mahathir has a tendency to criticise Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak," he added.
Done in his individual capacity but…
Tajuddin also reminded Nazri that the debate would affect the government despite the latter claiming that he was not representing the government and Umno.
"Even (if) he said this is done in his own capacity, the people will still link him to BN and the party will be affected," he said.

"I would like to remind Nazri that he has an interest in the government and BN, so consider this during the discourse," he advised.
The planned Mahathir-Nazri debate could not take place at Kuala Kangsar Mara Junior College (MRSM) hall tomorrow after police rejected the venue.
Nazri later proposed a new date and a new venue – April 7 at the headquarters of Sinar Harian publisher Karangkraf in Shah Alam, and Mahathir has agreed to it.- Mkini
