PAS expects GE14 between July and September

Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man says party will battle for several new parliamentary seats in addition to the 73 it contested in the last election.

MACHANG: PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has predicted that the 14th General Election (GE14) will be held any time between July and September this year.

He said the party was ready to face the campaign period and its election operations rooms were fully prepared to carry out its functions should the election be called.

“Our election machinery and operations rooms have been activated at all levels,” he was quoted by Bernama as saying.

He was speaking after officiating at Kelantan PAS Youth’s 58th annual general meeting at Pulai Chondong here today. Also present was state PAS Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari.

Prime Minister Najib Razak said yesterday Barisan Nasional (BN) has made intensive preparations and built a strong election machinery to ensure victory in GE14.

The BN chairman added that the coalition will win the election whether it is held this year or the next.

Tuan Ibrahim said PAS will run in several new constituencies that it had not contested in the last election in May 2013.

He said the decision will be based on the political scenario, especially in its relations with other opposition parties.

“The last time we had contested 73 parliamentary seats. We are now looking at other seats where we have strong potential,” he said. PAS won 21 of the 73 seats.

He added that the party was expected to face BN in nearly 90% of the seats it will contest. -FMT
