Sivarasa: I have apologised to Selangor sultan

PKR lawmaker R Sivarasa has apologised to Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah for making a speech in the prayer hall of Masjid An-Nur, Kampung Melayu Subang.
Sivarasa in a statement today said he had sent a letter to the sultan on Monday explaining what actually happened during the programme on May 24.
“In that letter, I had explained to the sultan that my short speech was not a ceramah, neither was it a political speech,” he said.
The Subang MP however noted the sultan’s speech made last Friday in which the ruler had stressed that mosques should not be used for politics, be it by Muslims or non-Muslims.
The sultan had reminded his prohibition disallowing politicians to speak in mosques.
“It is clear that I had disobeyed this command in my short speech made in the mosque.
“Therefore, I have apologised to the sultan over my mistake in the letter,” he said.

The Selangor sultan, last week, had ordered the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) to act on the mosque following the incident.
Sivarasa had denied delivering a political ceramah but said that he conveyed his Ramadan greetings and spoke on the Selangor government's commitment to the welfare of mosques.
The Selangor sultan however said that Sivarasa had “crossed the line” for giving a speech at the mosque.- Mkini
