Rafizi: Felda set up BVI company the same day of my exposé

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has claimed that a Felda Investment Corp (FIC) subsidiary was only registered on Oct 13, the same day he made an exposé about the firm not owning its hotels in London.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Razali Ibrahim, however, disputed this saying no company was registered on that day. Instead, he said they were duplicates of the company's registration documents, which were certified as true copies on Oct 13.
Rafizi had on Oct 13, claimed that Felda's Grand Plaza Kensington Hotel was owned by a shell company registered in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) named FIC London Hotel (Private) Limited. (Editor's note: To be referred to as "BVI FLH" for clarity.)
Rafizi further claimed that BVI FLH was not owned by FIC or Felda.
FIC, together with Felda chairperson Shahrir Samad and Razali, sought to debunk this at a press conference yesterday, by saying that it owned FLH.
However, Rafizi claimed that the FLH mentioned by Felda yesterday was only registered in the BVI on the same day he made his exposé about BVI FLH.
He claimed media reports by The Sun and Sinar Harian cited Razali (photo) as showing that FLH (Editor's note: To be referred to as "Felda FLH" for clarity) was registered in the BVI on Oct 13, 2017.
The Pandan MP theorised that the Felda management only realised that it did not control BVI FLH, and thus the Grand Plaza Kensington Hotel, when he exposed the matter.
"(Thus) they - or the minister in charge - did checks and decided to set up another BVI company with the same name but was fully owned by Felda," Rafizi said in a statement today.
He claimed this was why Razali and Shahrir waited nine days for Felda FLH to be fully set up before they could respond to his allegations.
Rafizi said he would lodge a police report over the matter tomorrow.
The PKR vice-president claimed that because Felda does not control BVI FLH, the RM330 million it invested in the Grand Plaza Kensington Hotel may have been misappropriated.
When contacted, Razali told Malaysiakini that "no company was registered on Oct 13 2017".

"The certified true copy dates of the copy of (the company registration) certificates are dated Oct 13, 2017," he added.
Razali said that no registration date was mentioned in yesterday's press conference.
The Grand Plaza Kensington Hotel is one of two FIC-owned hotels that are being probed by the MACC. - Mkini
