Report: Shafie's remand extended another four days

Parti Warisan Sabah president Mohd Shafie Apdal's remand was today extended to another four days, until Fri, Oct 27.
According to The Star Online, a Magistrate's Court in Kota Kinabalu granted the remand extension.
Shafie's lawyer, Martin Tommy was quoted as saying that the former rural and regional development minister had hoped for an earlier release so he could attend the tabling of Budget 2018 this Friday.
Shafie has fully cooperated with MACC, by giving his thumbprints, documents and everything else the commission had asked for, Tommy added.
Earlier, Bernama reported that the Kota Kinabalu High Court had rejected Shafie's application to review his initial remand of four days by MACC under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Justice Ismail Brahim reportedly made the decision after hearing a submission from Shafie's counsel Hamid Ismail and MACC prosecuting officer Rustam Sanip.
Hamid in his submission said MACC had infringed on Shafie’s rights by using Section 117 of the CPC to remand him for their investigation.

However, Rustam countered that MACC had the same jurisdiction as the police to invoke the section.
Hamid then said he would file an appeal to the Court of Appeal this week against the high court’s decision.
Shafie was among 13 people arrested in MACC's ongoing probe into projects worth RM1.5 billion under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry between 2009 and 2015.- Mkini
