SEAFOOD RESTAURANT OPERATOR SUES SELANGOR EXCO EAN YONG FOR RM500,000

SHAH ALAM – A seafood restaurant operator has filed a RM500,000 defamation suit against Selangor senior exco member Ean Yong Hian Wah for allegedly uttering and penning defamatory statements that had hurt her reputation and credibility.
The business owner, Lee Lee Sin filed the suit through her counsel counsel, Ng Kian Nam, at the Shah Alam Sessions Court registry today.
Ean Yong is the exco for Local Government, New Village Development and Legalising of Illegal Factories.
Ng said that in the suit, Lee, whose family runs Restoran Ocean Seafood, claimed Ean Yong had allegedly defamed her as the bona fide operator of the restaurant which formerly stood at Lover’s Bridge jetty in Tanjung Sepat.
“Ean Yong had said she was merely a landlady collecting thousands of ringgit worth of monthly rent and profiting from the actual restaurant operator.
“Ean Yong also said that Lee had misled the Selangor government into believing that she was the actual restaurant operator.
“These defamatory statements by Ean Yong were made in an open speech during his visit to Tanjung Sepat on June 23 and on his Facebook account.

“We had on July 21 served a letter of demand to Ean Yong and he had replied to it but denied that he had made such statements. His baseless and ill-intended statements had caused Lee to be misunderstood by people around her such as her customers, suppliers and workers,” Ng said when met at the court house lobby.
Lee is also seeking an apology from Ean Yong to be published on the frontpages of Sin Chew Daily, China Press, Guang Min Daily, Kwong Wah Yit Poh, as well as on his Facebook account.
Ng said he will also file an injunction to stop Ean Yong on his personal capacity or through other representatives from continuing to make or repeat the defamatory statements towards Lee.
Lee is also seeking aggravated damages deemed suitable by the court.
