1MDB's impact on country's economy very low, reiterates Putrajaya

Putrajaya has reiterated that 1MDB's impact on the country's economy is very low because the state-owned firm's rationalisation programme is going well.
In a parliamentary reply dated Nov 23, the Finance Ministry (MOF) said 1MDB has no impact on the influx of foreign direct investment (FDI) and foreign investors are still confident in the country's economy.
"The matter (1MDB) was not disputed by the investors, technocrats and businessmen in (the) US," the MOF told Raime Unggi (BN-Tenom).
Raime wanted to know the feedback from stakeholders in the US, after Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had informed them of a campaign to sabotage 1MDB during his visit to the US.
"The prime minister told the US business community that there was a campaign to deliberately sabotage 1MDB and weaken the confidence of the investors in the economy of Malaysia. And this is part of the attempt to oust the government.
In the reply, the MOF also stated: "The prime minister had urged the business community not to allow the issue to obscure the reality.
"The fact is, the country's economy continues to expand at a rate above the international average, as reported by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM)."
