A reply to Parliament Speaker Pandikar Amin

LETTER | Parti Warisan Sabah president Mohd Shafie Apdal had never mentioned the name of Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia in his speech on Sunday, Nov 19, 2017, at Kg Kauraan in Keningau, Sabah when he said those who thought Sabah and Sarawak have equal status with the states like Perlis in Semenanjung Malaysia “were stupid”.
Hence, why would Pandikar Amin “terasa” or felt that he was indeed stupid unless it was true that he did not actually understand the factual matrix of the history leading to the formation of Malaysia where among others, the status of Sabah, the then North Borneo and Sarawak were on equal footing with the Federation of Malaya and not with the respective states in the Federation of Malaya.
In fact, owing to the incessant and ceaseless effort of our very own political activists, I believe most Sabahans now realise that the federal government has breached several terms of the Malaysia Agreement.
That was why the MA63 forum organised by Pandikar Amin at Kian Kok Hall recently was very poorly attended. It would be fair to say it reflects the fact that nobody seemed interested to listen to his version of the MA63.
What Sabahans are demanding right now is for the federal government to implement the provisions in the MA63 that touched on the rights of Sabahans guaranteed upon the formation of Malaysia.
An example is the sum equivalent to 40 percent of the net revenue collected from Sabah to be given back to Sabah. This is a constitutional obligation on the part of the Federal Government.
As the Speaker of the Malaysia Parliament, he should be above politics and allowed motions to debate the MA63 in Parliament instead of challenging for an open debate with the president of Warisan.

As a Sabahan and a speaker, Pandikar Amin (photo) is the pride to all Sabahans.
It is, therefore, his duty not to act against his conscience but to understand the real feeling and hope of Sabahans and Sarawakians in making Malaysia a success in so far as Sabahans and Sarawakians are concerned.
We thankful to God the Almighty that Mohd Shafie has chosen to voluntarily leave his post as a government minister, along with the attendant perks that follow to lead Parti Warisan Sabah to regain the rights of Sabahans from the federal government which were guaranteed under the MA63.
Sabahans, especially those living in the interiors of Sabah, are beginning to understand and appreciate Shafie’s sacrifice. That is why Sabahans are more inclined to listen and support him now, especially the Sino Kadazandusunmurut (KDM) communities as evidenced by the overwhelming attendance in Keningau recently.

On several occasions, in his meetings with the Christian leaders of the KDM communities in Sabah, he has repeated his stance and support of the use of the word "Allah" in Malaysia by the Christian communities in Malaysia which the federal government allowed to be used in Sabah and Sarawak only.
Shafie has stressed that he has never wavered in his stand on that particular issue. He has always believed that there is no compulsion in Islam and that non-muslims are free to practice their own religion or beliefs. That is one of the tenets of Islam which ensures the general rights of non-muslim in Islam.- Mkini
