AirAsia has refuted Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin’s claim that a one-way ticket from Sandakan to Kuala Lumpur cost RM2,000.
“Referring to statements made by MP Bung Moktar Radin, AirAsia would like to clarify that the claims were untrue,” its CEO Aireen Omar said in a statement today.
“The claim by the MP that a one-way flight on that route costs RM2,000 is completely untrue. The average one-way fare for AirAsia flights between Kuala Lumpur and Sandakan is RM213.
“Even during peak season, when AirAsia operates flights with 100 percent load factor, our highest fare was about RM1,180, which still remain lowest in the market,” she added.
Aireen (photo) also denied the Umno lawmaker’s allegation that the budget airline imposed “hidden charges”.
"There are also no 'hidden charges' as alleged by the MP. AirAsia guests have the option of choosing how they want to fly and what products they wish to pay for, and all fees and charges are clearly stated on our website and mobile app,” she said.
Aireen then invited Bung to review airport facilities and services, citing Bung himself on how he had been motivated to air his grievances about AirAsia due to his concern for the people’s welfare.
“In the spirit of 'concern for the welfare of the people' as stated by the MP, we wish to invite him to review the differences in facilities and services between airport terminals in Malaysia and look into customer opinions and feedback.
“The rakyat in Sandakan are being forced to pay the same airport tax as travellers who use KLIA for far inferior services,” she said.
On Wednesday, AirAsia group chairperson Tony Fernandes had expressed his displeasure at an unnamed "MP" on social media.
This came a day after Deputy Transport Minister Ab Aziz Kaprawi said the government would take action against the budget airline if Bung's complaint were true.- Mkini
