Activist Adam Adli Abdul Halim has been acquitted of breaching the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 during the "Kita Lawan rally" in 2015.
Magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abdul Wahid handed the acquittal after ruling that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case.
Adam Adli told reporters later that the court's decision to throw out the case was a pleasant surprise because he has had to fight many legal battles in the past.
His lawyer Latheefa Koya said this was the first time a person charged over a street protest had been acquitted without the defence being called.
