GEORGE TOWN: A British man was believed to have been beaten unconscious by a group of men in a brawl in front of a restaurant in Penang Road here early today.
District police chief Anuar Omar said there were traces of blood at the scene, according to a statement by the victim’s friend.
“The friend, a 39-year-old British man, said he was not aware of the incident and only saw a group of dark-skinned men gathered around (the location).
“Upon arrival, he saw the victim on the ground covered in blood,” he said here today.
Anuar said the victim sustained a neck injury, and that the police were unable to record his statement as yet because he was undergoing surgery.
He said security camera footage of the area was blurry.
A 38-year-old man has been remanded until Thursday to help in the investigation. Police are also tracking down other suspects, he added. -FMT
