Dr M says no intention to 'torture' anyone in Najib's house search

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has downplayed criticisms related to the marathon police raid on former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's private residence last night.
Mahathir said the process which ended at close to dawn today was a part of police standard operating procedure.
He also said he had no intention for the police to "torture" any person and that all cases should be investigated in accordance with the rule of law.
"The police have got their SOP. I didn't know they were going to raid at night. My instructions were very clear.
"I am not going to torture people and things like that. I want people to be treated decently," Mahathir told a press conference at Bersatu's headquarters in Petaling Jaya after chairing a Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting today.
He said this when asked for comments on the marathon raid at Najib's house on Jalan Langgak Duta, which drew criticisms that the process could have been carried out at a more suitable hour.
Police had initiated the search at Najib's home at about 10.15pm yesterday after arriving in dozens of cars and a Black Maria truck which is often used to transport people arrested by the police.
This triggered widespread speculation that the former premier might be arrested.
The police, however, only left with handbags, presents as well as three or four boxes of Najib's and his wife Rosmah Mansor's personal possessions.
According to the former premier's lawyer Harpal Singh Grewal, no documents were confiscated but the search was time-consuming due to the size of the bungalow with police checking all the rooms.
Several Pakatan Harapan lawmakers, including PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, have questioned the need for the operation which lasted for more than 12 hours. -Mkini
