Once enemy of the state, Sarawak Report editor now free to enter Malaysia

Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown was once considered an enemy of the state, accused of being part of a conspiracy to topple former premier Najib Abdul Razak and his administration from power by illegal means.
But with the new change in government, Rewcastle-Brown can now enter Malaysia freely.
"I had a really smooth arrival. My heart went a little bit [taps palm against chest] at immigration, but everyone was very nice as ever.
"Obviously (I had) no problem, so that was great," she said to Malaysiakini upon arrival at KLIA yesterday.
Back in August 2015, Bukit Aman had issued an arrest warrant against her for offences allegedly committed under Section 124B and 124I of the Penal Code.
Section 124B and 124I deal with activities “detrimental to parliamentary democracy” and spreading false reports and statements to cause public alarm, respectively.
Rewcastle-Brown said she spoke to a few friends who made sure it was safe for her to come to Malaysia now.
"Well, I've been assured that these charges are being dropped, and Interpol is no longer being notified that Malaysia wants my extradition, so I came voluntarily instead," she said.
She came to Malaysia to handle some personal matters, meet up with friends and "do the sort of things that journalists get up to."
"I'm not here on any official capacity at all.
"I'm sure all your leaders have got much more important things to do at the moment," she said.
It was reported yesterday that Sarawak Report has been made accessible in Malaysia again after being blocked for more than two years.
The whistleblower website played a pivotal role in exposing the 1MDB saga, beginning in 2014 with a series of articles on businessperson Low Taek Jho's lavish parties with US celebrities.  -Mkini
