KUALA LUMPUR — Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s police and security escort was revoked officially by the federal government today.
The former prime minister confirmed the matter on his Facebook page, where he thanked his security detail.
“Today I saluted and said goodbye to my team of police escorts, Special Actions Unit (UTK), escort officers and personnel tasked to provide security for my family at the Prime Minister’s Office and the PM’s official residence of Seri Perdana,” he said in a statement on Facebook.
Najib said for the past few weeks, all but one officer posted under him was rescinded in a new directive by the federal government. The remaining officer is an aide-de-camp to Najib.
Najib’s white Toyota Vellfire and his convoy left his Taman Duta private residence around 6.45pm, with a noticeable lack of police outriders that usually accompany the entourage when Najib leaves his mansion.
His Toyota Vellfire returned home alone with no escort in sight around 7.45pm.
He said he and his family would never forget the friendship, loyalty and contribution shared between them for the past nine years, including officers that served during his term as deputy Prime Minister.
“It cannot be denied that these officers shed tears when we said our farewells to one another,” the Pekan MP said.
“Until we meet again, I wish them good luck and hope that they will continue to serve the new government with the same dedication and loyalty shown while under me.
“I hope the new government will look after the officers’ wellbeing because these personnel are dedicated individuals who will serve the government of today with their utmost loyalty,” Najib added.
