SHUKRI ABDULL, WHO OBJECTED TO 1MDB COVER-UP, RETURNS TO HEAD MACC – WHILE MAHATHIR QUESTIONS EX-CHIEF ABU KASSIM ON 1MDB, SRC

PETALING JAYA: Former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy chief commissioner Datuk Seri Shukri Abdull has been named to head the MACC, taking over from Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad who resigned from the post last Monday.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad made the announcement at a press conference today after a meeting of the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council here.
Shukri went on mandatory retirement in 2016 when he was investigating several high-profile cases, including those related to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Dzulkifli returned to serve at the Attorney-General’s Chambers last Tuesday.
Dr Mahathir said the appointment of Shukri, who will assume duties after receiving the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, was based on the experience and information he had acquired during his service with the commission.
“He has much information and he objected to the wrong actions of the MACC as well as the role of (former prime minister) Datuk Seri Najib (Tun Razak) in preventing investigations. We want to know exactly what happened,” he said.
Dr Mahathir responded to a question seeking his comment on the meeting he had today with former MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya.
Dzulkifli, who was appointed as MACC chief on secondment from Aug 1, 2016, to July 31, 2021, has returned to serve at the Attorney-General’s Chambers. – Bernama

Former MACC chief questioned on 1MDB, SRC

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad called former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed to Yayasan Perdana to inquire about several matters believed to be related to SRC International and the RM2.6 billion fund linked to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), early, today.
Abu Kassim said the Prime Minister asked him several questions during the brief meeting and sought his clarification on several issues.
“I answered him with whatever information and knowledge that I had on the issue,” he told reporters as he left Yayasan Perdana following the meeting with Mahathir, here, this morning.
However, Abu Kassim did not confirm whether the Prime Minister’s queries were related to MACC’s investigations into SRC International, saying that Mahathir wanted clarity over a few matters, based on his answers.
MACC had conducted an initial probe into SRC International, the company which was believed to have been involved in the transfer of millions of ringgit into the private accounts of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak. – THE SUN DAILY
