‘WHY TREAT NAJIB LIKE A CRIMINAL, HE IS A PRINCIPLED MAN’: ELDERLY MAN WHO CLAIMS TO BE EX-PM’S OLD PAL CRIES FOR ‘JUSTICE’ EVEN AS UMNO’S NAZRI RUSHES TO DENY VISITING TAINTED LEADER’S HOUSE AMID ONGOING POLICE SEARCH

NAJIB’S FRIEND: IS FORMER PREMIER UNDER HOUSE ARREST?
KUALA LUMPUR – A man who claims to be a long-time friend of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak showed up outside the former premier’s house at Taman Duta Thursday, only to be turned away by the police.
The man, who introduced himself as Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahman (pic), 65, appeared disgruntled and questioned the newly formed government’s treatment of Najib.
“Is Najib under house arrest?” he told reporters after he was turned away at Jalan Langgak Duta.
Abdul Rahim claimed he is an ordinary Umno member from Port Dickson and part of “Friends of Najib Club”.
He said he and a few friends had made an appointment to meet Najib at noon Thursday but he decided to come about half an hour earlier.
“Najib is being treated like a political prisoner or criminal without being charged.
“He (Najib) is a strong man, a principled man,” Abdul Rahim said.
As he was speaking to the press, a grey Mercedes with the emblem of the Jaksa Pendamai title beside its licence plate went through the police line towards the house. It is unclear who was in the car.
Since Thursday morning, several police cars were seen going in and out of the residence as police continue their search for evidence that began late Wednesday (May 16) night.
However, it is unclear if anything was taken out in those vehicles.
Another car claiming to be carrying a lawyer was also spotted.

Cops: Search still ongoing at Najib’s home in Taman Duta

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are still conducting search at the private residence of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in Taman Duta.
Bukit Aman Commercial CID director Datuk Seri Amar Singh Ishar Singh, when contacted by Bernama on Thursday, confirmed this, but declined to elaborate.
A man, who claimed to be a neighbour of Najib, was stopped by the police as he approached the house at 11.20 am on Thursday.
Scores of reporters from the local and foreign media have been camping in the vicinity of the house since Wednesday (May 16) night to monitor developments.
Passing motorists slowed their vehicles to see what was going on or to snap photographs or record videos of the situation outside the residence.
More than 10 police vehicles, including a truck, arrived at the house at 10.15pm on Wednesday after Najib had returned from attending “terawih” prayers at the Kampung Baru Mosque here.
Najib’s lawyer Datuk Harpal Singh Grewal told reporters early Thursday that several personal items such as handbags, clothes and gifts were removed from the house.
He said Najib and his family members extended their cooperation during the search, and that there were no arrests.
The police also searched another private residence of Najib, a luxury apartment in Jalan Raja Chulan.
Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor have been blacklisted by the Immigration Department and they are prohibited from leaving the country.
Last week, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he expected charges to be filed against Najib following investigations over the removal of hundreds of millions of US dollars from the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) fund.
The Pakatan Harapan coalition led by Dr Mahathir defeated the Barisan Nasional headed by Najib in the general election on May 9. -– Bernama
