Kelantan Umno chief Mustapa Mohamed has urged Umno members to shed bad practices which have tarnished its image.
"This includes the 'political warlord' culture, arrogance, money politics and extreme racial rhetoric.
"We cannot be stagnant and downplay these issues," said Mustapa in a statement today.
He said Umno must accept the decisions of the voters, which handed BN a heavy defeat during the May 9 polls, and immediately initiate reforms.
"Umno must change. The people will not wait for us.
"All Umno leaders must be introspective and have the courage to bring radical change in order to restore public trust in the party," he said.
He said that the Umno leadership's decision to ensure that all party positions would be open to contest in the upcoming polls was among the measures that will help restore the party's image.
He expressed hope that the process would be free from vote buying.
Mustapa, 67, was re-elected as the Jeli MP during the May 9 polls and will now serve a fifth term. -Mkini
