Cops urged to probe netizens accusing Ramasamy of supporting terror

At least 20 police reports have been lodged against two netizens accusing Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy and Bagan Dalam assemblyperson Satees Muniandy of promoting violence.
These netizens, according to Satees, are creating the impression that he and Ramasamy are supporters of violence and terrorism after photos of both DAP lawmakers “worshipping” an image of an AK-47 assault rifle went viral on social media.
"We want the police to probe those who make these unsubstantiated claims, they are creating confusion among the public, inciting religious sentiments against Ramasamy and me.
"Police reports are being lodged nationwide.
"We do not have the figures yet, but as far as Penang is concerned, at least 20 reports have been lodged to urge police to investigate the inciters," Satees said when contacted.
A report lodged by Seberang Perai councillor Jason Raj Kirupanantha, sighted by Malaysiakini, said several Facebook users – like two named Zamri Vinoth and Firdaus Wong – made the allegations against Ramasamy.
"These postings can create disturbance to peace and harmony in the country. They accuse Ramasamy of supporting violent organisations without any proof.
"Such malicious postings create unrest among the Muslim community against Ramasamy," said Jason Raj.
The viral photos of both Ramasamy and Satees attending a 2015 memorial service for genocide victims, organised by a local NGO in Butterworth, had been uploaded onto Facebook by Zamri.
In his posting, he asked why Ramasamy is “worshipping” the assault rifle when he claims to fight for peace.
"I want to ask you is AK-47 the symbol of peace or violence?" asked Zamri, who denied being anti-DAP, only anti-violence.
‘Who is the real terrorist?’
Zamri’s post was shared by Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, who dared Ramasamy to debate controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik to decide "who is the real terrorist."
Ramasamy claims to have been unfairly targeted by pro-Naik groups, as he has advocated for the preacher to be deported to India to face charges of money laundering, as well as inciting violence and religious disharmony.
Naik, who has a permanent residence in Malaysia, has denied all charges.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has refused to bow to pressure from India to deport him, saying that Naik has not committed any crimes in the country. - Mkini
