KLANG: PPBM deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir has taken Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa to task over his remark that Sungai Kandis and Balakong may not be the only by-elections as there may be another one in Langkawi.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is Mukhriz’s father, is currently the Langkawi MP.
Mukhriz said the Ketereh MP’s remark was uncalled for and rude.
“I do not think he’s the only one who made such remarks, I know there are other Umno youth members who said the same thing,” Mukhriz said after speaking at a ceramah for the Sungai Kandis by-election here.
Yesterday, in an Umno ceramah, Annuar said more by-elections could take place after the deaths of two incumbent assemblymen, one of cancer and other in an accident, and mentioned Langkawi as a possible seat.
He claimed that God wanted to “test” the people of Selangor, two months after the May 9 general election.
Mukhriz, who is Kedah menteri besar, said the issue of a person’s life or death is in the hands of the Almighty.
“He (Mahathir) is 93 years old, and he may live up to 100 years old or 103, if God is willing to let him live,” he said.
Mukhriz also said those who wished for bad things on others might suffer the same fate.
“It doesn’t matter if you are old or young, God has His plans for us.
“People used to say that it is insane to pick a 93-year-old as prime minister, but look what is happening now?”
