Former minister Rais Yatim has cried "fake news" after a poster on social media claimed he regretted supporting Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
This was after Rais, who is now a Bersatu member, joined the Himpunan Kebangkitan Ummah (Rise of the Ummah) rally yesterday intended to "defend Malay-Muslims," which was largely attended by PAS and Umno leaders.
"They are out of ideas in creating fake news. Mahathir remains a beacon of light.
"The issue of regret in supporting him does not arise," he said in a Twitter posting today.
Rais was responding to pictures of him at the rally yesterday with the caption "Rais regrets supporting Mahathir."
Rais said the rally was to address issues pressuring Malays Muslims and to create awareness so that their race and culture does not see further erosion.
Among the example, he said, was the government's promise to recognise the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), the certification used by Chinese independent schools.
Rais described it as a challenge to the national education system. -Mkini
