Zawawi upbeat 3,000 PAS supporters will vote for him

SG KANDIS POLLS | Pakatan Harapan candidate Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni is confident up to 3,000 PAS supporters will vote for him in the coming Sungai Kandis by-election on August 4.
He said this is based on supporters he has met while campaigning in the Selangor state constituency.
“Party members have a choice to vote for whomever they feel can represent them, so I am confident based on my encounters with them this morning and yesterday evening at the mosque, surau and market, I know a portion of PAS voters will vote for Harapan's candidate,” he told reporters at the PKR Sungai Kandis operations room today.
He said the constituency comprised 7,000 as in the May 9 general election, 50 percent of whom he said would vote for him this time around.
He said this when asked for his response to PAS leaders calling on party members to vote for Umno's candidate Lokman Noor Adam.
Despite being traditional foes, PAS has openly supported Umno in the present by-election.
While the Islamist party had contested in many Selangor seats in the 14th general election, setting up multi-cornered fights between Harapan and BN, PAS decided to stay out of the current by-election.
According to Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa earlier, the former ruling party had “successfully negotiated” with PAS on the Sungai Kandis strategy.
Umno, PAS lost at sea
When asked about Umno former Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin's call for Umno not to continue to rely on PAS to get votes, Zawawi said this showed the two parties were still struggling to come to terms with the “shock” of their massive defeat in the general election.
“Both of them have lost their bearings, some are heading east, some west, some up and some down, and some are in coma.
“So we now have a chance to see them in rough seas (terumbang ambing), while we are on the right track, championing the cause of the people, and we are confident we can build up the local community,” he said. -Mkini
