All set for annual exodus

PETALING JAYA: Several major highways in the country are expected to experience heavy traffic as more than two million vehicles hit the road during the balik kampung exodus.

With the high volume of traffic on the road, PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) has advised motorists to adhere to road safety regulations and tips as well as to plan their journey carefully.

PLUS has advised motorists to follow its travel time advisory (TTA) when scheduling their balik kampung and balik kota travel from now to June 10.

Those who are heading to locations such as Negri Sembilan, Melaka and Selangor are advised to enter the highway after 10am.

Motorists are also advised to ensure their vehicles are in good condition and have enough fuel for the journey.

“We expect the petrol stations at the R&R stops to be crowded this festive season.

“Also ensure there is sufficient balance on your Touch ‘n Go cards and PLUSMiles cards before beginning your journey,” PLUS said in a statement.

On the first day of Hari Raya, PLUS will be giving 20% discount on toll rates from midnight to 11.59pm.

The discount is applicable for private vehicle customers who are travelling on the North-South Expressway (NSE), the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), the Seremban-Port Dickson expressway (SPDH), the North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE), the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Highway (Linkedua), the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE), the East-Coast Expressway 2 (LPTP2) and the Penang Bridge.

However, the discount is not offered at the Tanjung Kupang Toll.

The discount is also not applicable for motorists who are currently enjoying the existing Penang Bridge 20% toll discount.

PLUS said it has placed 5,000 of its personnel on the highways to help motorists.

It added that 245 PLUSRonda patrol teams will be making its rounds 24 hours on the highway.

There will also be 729 personnel from the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence, Road Transport Department, St John Ambulance, and Red Crescent Society placed in strategic locations nationwide. - Star
