Chin Tong impressed by Huawei's smart farm technology

Deputy Defence Minister Liew Chin Tong said he was impressed by the potential of Huawei smart farm technology for Malaysian agriculture.

He said this after visiting Huawei's office in Kuala Lumpur and being briefed by its country chief executive officer Michael Yuan about the application of 5G technology.

"I am very drawn by Huawei's smart farm technology which has the potential to improve agriculture productivity in Malaysia, particularly in Johor which has a huge agriculture sector.

"The use of technology will change the agriculture industry," he said in a statement.

The senator urged Malaysians to improve their skills in such technology which will help in the country's advancement.

He also stressed that any foreign investment must benefit Malaysians.

"Any foreign investors in Malaysia must prepare the appropriate job opportunities for locals.

"They must also invest in automation and carry out their corporate social responsibility to benefit the development of Malaysians," he said.

Liew, who is also Johor DAP chief, said the government will evaluate such investments in a transparent manner to ensure mutual benefit in accordance with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's stance on the matter.
