SANDAKAN POLLS | On the final day of campaigning in Sandakan, a number of heavyweights from both sides of the political divide are all making their way to Sandakan on the same flight.
Malaysiakini has learnt from a source that former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, who is accompanied by Umno supreme council members Lokman Adam and Armand Azha Abu Hanifah, is sharing the same flight as Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu as well as Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.
Election Commission (EC) chairperson Azhar Harun is also on the flight, according to the source.
The MAS flight, which departed from Kuala Lumpur around 10.25am, is expected to land in Sandakan at 1.25pm today.
The three ministers will most likely be joining DAP's final ceramah tonight at Bandar Letat Jaya in Sandakan in support of DAP's candidate Vivian Wong.
Meanwhile, Najib will be visiting the Giant hypermarket in Bandar Utama, Sandakan, around 4pm today, to help campaign for PBS' candidate Linda Tsen.
This is part of the final push by both sides in the two-week campaigning period that only ramped up in the second week.
Aside from Wong and Tsen, there are three independent candidates in this by-election, namely Hamzah Abdullah, Sulaiman Abdul Samat and Chia Siew Yong.
Voting will be held tomorrow, May 11.
