KUALA LUMPUR: MCA is comfortable with the spirit of cooperation under Muafakat Nasional as it is based on positive universal values, said its president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).
He stressed that it was not a formal coalition or pact but was done based on the spirit of solidarity among Opposition parties to champion the people's welfare.
"So far, there is no problem as it does not go against any universal values or the spirit of the Federal Constitution," he told reporters on the sidelines of Umno's annual general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre here on Friday (Dec 6).
He noted that Opposition parties including Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) had cooperated under the same spirit on certain common issues.

"This is based on the spirit of solidarity and a sense of belonging. We invite any other parties from Sabah and Sarawak to join as well," he said.
Dr Wee said there was no reason for MCA to reject the spirit of cooperation under Muafakat Nasional which had been described as inclusive.
"I do not think any Malaysian citizen with a multiracial background will reject this," he added.
Asked to comment on the call to institutionalise Muafakat Nasional, he said it must be realistic.
"We are not the government, and we are not forming another coalition.
"For me, as long as the spirit and values are based on universal values and the Federal Constitution, are inclusive and moderate without sidelining the views of other races or religions, we support it," he said.
MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran said he welcomed any forms of cooperation under Muafakat Nasional.
"It will further strengthen our silaturrahim (brotherhood).
"If we want to work together until the next general election, we need to start a form of cooperation that is more systematic," he said.
MIC, he added, has no problem working with any parties, including PAS, as Malaysia is a multiracial country. - Star
