PM keeps mum on appointing Anwar as special functions minister

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad chose not to comment on the recommendation by A Kadir Jasin to appoint PKR president Anwar Ibrahim as a special functions minister.
Asked if he agreed with the advice of Kadir, Mahathir explained that everyone is free to express their views.
"That's his opinion. In Malaysia, we are free to speak up. Anyone can make any suggestion.
"I hear everyone has a say. Not all of us agree. There are also many suggestions on a cabinet reshuffle, but it is freedom of speech.

"You can ask what you like but whether I will respond or not, what I think, I'll keep it to myself," Mahathir told a press conference in the Parliament lobby today.
Yesterday, Kadir, who is Mahathir's media and communications adviser, said Mahathir could bring Anwar (above) into the cabinet by appointing him as the special functions minister.
This following the defeat of Pakatan Harapan in the recent Tanjung Piai by-election.
Kadir said it was time to review Anwar's role.
Not aware of CPM members meet
Mahathir also said he was not aware that a group of former Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) members held an event in Kajang on Sunday.
"I didn't even know they (the former CPM members) met. It isn't a party... a communist party.
"You are talking about the communist party. I just read the newspapers. I just came back from Korea. Ask about Korea, I can answer," he said.
Yesterday, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin expressed concern over the current trend of involving issues related to communism to create dissatisfaction among the people.
The event on Dec 1 was attended by 300 people, mostly senior citizens.
It was organised to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Hat Yai Peace Accord signed on Dec 2, 1989. A similar event was also held in Hat Yai yesterday.
Meanwhile, Kajang district police chief Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said they are currently investigating all aspects of the organising of the event. - Mkini
