Zahid paid RM35k road tax for fleet of vehicles, says witness

ZAHID TRIAL | Former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi paid RM35,726.80 a year for his vehicles' road tax, most of which were registered under his name.
This was revealed by Putrajaya Road Transport Department (RTD) assistant director Zaharudin Zainuddin in his written statement during the sixth day of Zahid's criminal trial involving Yayasan Akalbudi.
Zaharudin confirmed the total amount for the road tax as stated on the vehicle information document when it was referred to him by DPP Lee Keng Fatt before Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah today.
He was also referred to documents containing detailed information on the vehicles insurance amount and asked to confirm the name of the owner as registered on the documents.

The vehicles, most of which were luxury vehicles, consisted of 11 cars, multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) and sport utility vehicles (SUVs), as well as nine luxury and small capacity engine motorcycles or kapcai. Almost all of these vehicles were registered with the number ''38''.
Luxury vehicles registered under Zahid's name include two units of Toyota Vellfire, two Lexus units including an LX 460, a BMW 320i, one Chrysler Jeep Wrangler, an Audi Q7 and a Honda Odyssey.
Luxury and kapcai motorcycles under his name include two units of Harley Davidson, BMW model R1200 GS, R1200 RT and C600, Ducati Diavel Carbon and Honda C100.
Vehicles registered under his wife's name, Hamidah Khamis, include a Mercedes Benz CLS 350 and an MPV Toyota Vellfire and two motorcycles - Ducati Hypermotard and Kawasaki KLX250 V.
A luxury SUV Toyota Land Cruiser was registered under Juhari Janan, who once served as Zahid's special officer while he was deputy prime minister and home minister.
Lee: For those vehicles referred to earlier, is it owned privately?
Zaharudin: Yes.
Lee: Based on the detailed information of document for the vehicles and the insurance you referred to earlier and the motor vehicle licence document just now, is the information updated to the printing date?
Zaharudin: That is correct.
Lee: Do you know how much is the tax for a vehicle with a petrol engine with the capacity of 1,598cc?
Zaharudin: RM180.
Lee: Do you know how much is the tax for a vehicle with a petrol engine with the capacity of 2,979cc?
Zaharudin: RM1,606.40.
Being the 12th prosecution witness, Zaharudin (below) was then released after the defence showed no interest in cross-examining him.
Zahid is facing 47 charges, 12 of which involve criminal breach of trust, eight counts of corruption and 27 counts of money laundering involving Yayasan Akalbudi.
The prosecution is trying to prove that Zahid misappropriated funds amounting to around RM31 million from Yayasan Akalbudi.
Earlier today, the 10th witness, Yeoh Eng Leong, revealed that 25 cheques were issued to make payments for four Ambank credit cards belonging to Zahid and Hamidah which were signed using a signature stamp.
Zahid was stated as the owner of the four credit cards.
After Yeoh, the 11th witness, Royasmin Mohd Roddy, who is an Affin Bank clerk, also gave his statement and verified several documents.
