'Sacking of exco members not in line with reconciliation agenda'

PKR Youth vice-chief Nazree Yunus (above) has urged the party leadership to review the sacking of seven of the wing’s executive council members.
He said although party regulations had been cited to justify their removals, the enforcement of the rule was not in line with the party’s agenda to unite its rival factions.

“Such action does not strengthen the Youth wing nor the party, to say nothing of the reformasi struggle.
“Unless this was done unintentionally, this shows a weak Youth wing because it had to sack as many of its own leaders as it can, using non-attendance at meetings as an excuse, without evaluating their involvement in other forms of activism.
“I urge the party’s top leadership to review this action and give better advice so that there is no contradiction between an organisation’s actions and its true goals, and cause the reform agenda to stall,” Nazree said in a statement last night.
The seven who have been sacked are Nagarajan Kaniappan, Ahmad Khairul Mohamed Noor, Mohd Akmal Hisyam Ahmad Tamyiz, Mohd Firdaus Yusoff, Mohd Izad Buqhary Mohd Kamri, Nik Mohd Faris Syazwan Zainuzzaman and Wan Mohamad Fitri Wan Abdul Rahim.
In a letter issued to one of the seven members, it said the decision was made based on a rule that those who are absent from six consecutive leadership council meetings without a valid reason are regarded as having resigned from their posts.
PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasir had told Malaysiakini that the seven had not attended any meetings in 2019 and did not give any reasons for their absence.
Nazree, meanwhile, said the seven should be retained in the party instead. - Mkini
