Cops deny viral video of alleged death at Sungai Petani temple

The Kedah police will take action against the spreading of false information alleging that an unidentified individual was beaten to death during Thaipusam prayers at a temple in Sungai Petani last night.
Kuala Muda district police chief Adzli Abu Shah told Malaysiakini a report will be lodged under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act on sharing of offensive and menacing content.
"That is 'fake news'...We will lodge a police report on spreading of false information.
"There was an incident, but it wasn't fatal. There was no death and nobody was warded," he said when contacted.

Adzli added that an investigating officer had been in touch with the victim who sounded "alright" and was able to talk over the phone.
When contacted, Bakar Arang assemblyperson Simon Ooi similarly denied the incident, based on information from the police.
A 26-second video of the purported incident was uploaded on Twitter last night and has since been viewed over 100,000 times.
The video caption claimed that the unidentified individual had died on the spot after being beaten up at the temple where Thaipusam prayers were held. - Mkini
