MACC has scrutinised Rosmah Mansor's medical certificate (MC) and found no issues with it, said its chief commissioner Latheefa Koya.
She said MACC was asked to verify the MC after it was produced when former premier Najib Abdul Razak's wife failed to attend the first day of her corruption trial last week.
“Actually the investigation was more of a verification [...]
“What happened was this issue was raised in court with regard to the MC that was produced and there were issues as to the description of the illness that she is supposed to have been suffering. And I think the context (was) the (Rosmah's) lawyer spoke about Google researching and all that.
“So I think in order to clear any doubts... it was a request (to verify the MC) because of the production of the MC at the very last minute.
“I think there was no issue because Rosmah appeared the next day and the trial started. So no issue there,” she told reporters after attending the launch of the Apec 2020 Gender Mainstreaming and Women Empowerment to Fight Corruption symposium in Putrajaya this morning.
Last Monday, lawyer Jagjit Singh had produced an MC to the court stating that his client could not be present due to cervical spondylosis, osteoarthritis of the knees and chronic adrenal insufficiency.
Lead prosecutor Gopal Sri Ram rejected the MC, noting that it was signed by a private doctor and not by a government doctor, as is required.
Jagjit later criticised MACC’s scrutiny into the MC as “intimidation” against the private doctor involved.
Rosmah is facing three counts of corruption involving a solar energy project for rural schools in Sarawak.
In Nov 2018, she pleaded not guilty to two counts of soliciting RM187.5 million and one count of receiving RM1.5 million for the government project.
The trial continues today. - Mkini
