JOHOR BAHRU: Police will investigate a video on Facebook allegedly showing Malaysian workers returning from Singapore crowding the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex here on Thursday night, before deciding if they will call up an MP to record a statement.
According to Johor police chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, police have opened an investigation paper on the video, which he said caused alarm among the people.
He said Johor Immigration director Baharuddin Tahir lodged a report at the Larkin police station at about 11.30am yesterday, and the Bukit Aman Classified Criminal Investigation Unit had taken over the investigations.
Ayob Khan said the video not only caused alarm to the public but also among law enforcement agencies.
He said the video was actually of a fire drill conducted at the complex late last year, and that the individual who spread it should have first checked its authenticity.
“To me that was an irresponsible act,” he said, adding that Facebook had to confirm if the video was uploaded by the MP, who is also a former deputy minister.
Ayob Khan also said police would step up enforcement at roadblocks following the extension of the movement control order to April 28.
He said police had identified 80 “jalan tikus” (rat trails) in the state, and roadblocks would be carried out at roads connecting to them.
“In the Simpang Renggam area, which is under enhanced movement control order, there are more than 200 personnel on duty.
“We will not be adding any more, but next week, we will be enhancing the roadblocks,” he said. - FMT
