MCMC launches internal probe on Fuziah's claim of SOP breach

Malaysiakini

The Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said it is conducting an internal investigation on Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh’s claim that the agency had violated its own standard operating procedure when investigating her.
At the same time, however, the MCMC said the taking of her photograph while her statement was being taken is for record purposes.
“The MCMC wishes to explain that its officer’s action to take a photograph of a former deputy minister during statement-taking does not violate any standard operating procedure as alleged.
“The taking of the photograph is part of procedures for record purposes only.
“Nevertheless, the picture may have been shared to third parties,” the agency said today.
Earlier, Fuziah alleged that an MCMC officer had taken a picture of her while she was being questioned by the police and the commission.
The photo was subsequently found on an Umno division’s Instagram account.
“An internal investigation is now being conducted to identify the individual responsible.
“The MACC will not compromise with any wrongdoing by its officers, and disciplinary action will be taken if the culprit is found guilty,” the MCMC stated.
The police had recorded Fuziah’s (above) statement on Friday to facilitate investigations on a false claim that large crowds of Malaysians had descended on the Sultan Iskandar Building (CIQ Complex) in Johor Bahru in a bid to return home from Singapore.
A purported video of the incident had been posted on Fuziah’s Facebook account, but the Johor Immigration Department denied the incident took place.
The Facebook page later carried a note where the page's "administrator" apologised for posting an old video clip.
The case is being investigated under Section 500 and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for slander and causing public fear and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use of network facilities or service. - Mkini
