PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin gave a standing ovation to Covid-19 frontliners today, crediting them for the country’s success in combating the pandemic.
In a video conference with health workers at Hospital Sungai Buloh, Muhyiddin stated his admiration for them and thanked them for their service and sacrifice.
He credited frontliners for the praise Malaysia had garnered for its handling of the crisis, describing them as the nation’s unsung heroes.
“We had no experience, there was no SOP (standard operating procedure) we could use or refer to because this was something we did not expect.
“But the way we’ve been handling it, whether from the government side or from the frontlines, has seemingly been positive, in the sense of the outcome.
“All these are indications about the healthcare system we have put in place and, of course, because of the work you have put in,” he said.
He asked them to keep up the good work and to take care of their own wellbeing, adding that they were in his and the nation’s prayers.
“Make sure you are healthy so we can come out winning this war and we can get back to our normal lives. Thank you, once again, for your contribution and sacrifice,” he said, before rising to his feet and applauding them.
Last week, China Global TV Network (CGTN) named health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah as one of the top three doctors in the world for his straightforward and calm approach in handling the Covid-19 outbreak in Malaysia.
Noor Hisham also said in late March that the World Health Organization (WHO) was satisfied with the nation’s preparedness and management of the outbreak. - FMT
