Pakatan Harapan Pahang cries foul treatment by state gov't

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Pakatan Harapan state assemblypersons in Pahang have cried foul against alleged unfair treatment by the state government, accusing it of denying them their special financial aid to help out with the Covid-19 outbreak.
PKR Semambu assemblyperson Lee Chean Chung revealed that nine Harapan assemblypersons were not invited to the ceremony where the distribution of this financial aid was made by Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.
“According to the photographs we have seen, assemblypersons from Umno, PAS and MCA attended the ceremony. Harapan’s representatives were not invited,” he told Malaysiakini.
Lee, who is PKR’s treasurer-general, lamented that the state government chose to politicise the matter in the midst of the serious Covid-19 pandemic.
This violates humanitarian values and demoralises the people’s resolve to stand against the deadly pathogen, he added.
According to Lee (photo, below), the opposition had only received a one-off RM3,000 special aid thus far from the state government for their respective constituencies.
He said Wan Rosdy distributed RM75,000 to every state constituency but the Harapan leaders were completely left in the dark.
“We could only assist the constituents by our own means as the state government’s assistance is limited. We should be fighting against the pandemic, yet they chose to play politics at this critical moment. This is disappointing,” Lee added.
Meanwhile, DAP Pahang secretary Lee Chin Chen has also confirmed that Pahang’s opposition representatives were not receiving any financial aid from the government.
The state government should be professional in handling the funds as the Covid-19 outbreak affects every single family, regardless of their political allegiance, said Chin Chen, the assemblyperson for Bilut.
He also noted that seven DAP state lawmakers have pledged to donate 10 percent of their salary to a Covid-19 relief fund, along with the Pahang state executive councillors, for three months.
“The government should not politicise the matter,” Chin Chen stressed.
According to the Pahang state government Facebook page, Wan Rosdy has allocated RM75,000, of which there will be RM100 as cash assistance and RM50 for essential items for 500 recipients in each state constituency. The total amount of the allocation is RM3.15 million.
Malaysiakini had contacted the state government for a response.  - Mkini
