Perak local councillors are being dismissed from their positions effective April 30, according to a letter from the state secretariate's office.
"It is informed that the Perak state executive council meeting No 1987 has decided that the appointment of all local councillors in Perak from Oct 1, 2019 to July 31, 2021 will have their services terminated effective on April 30, 2020.
"This decision needs to be acted upon immediately," the letter read.
The letter gave no further explanation on the dismissal.
It carried the letterhead of the state secretariat and was addressed to the Ipoh mayor, and heads of municipal and district councils in the state.
A Perak local councillor told Malaysiakini that the letter is authentic.
There were no further explanations or clarifications given in the letter (below).
The dismissal comes in wake of the dismissal of all Village Community Management Council (MPKK) members statewide.
Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu said since MPKK office bearers are political appointees, they should step down when there is a transition of power.
The Pakatan Harapan government was formed after the 14th general election in May 2018 but in less than two years, the government collapsed and the Perikatan Nasional government took over in February 2020.
The Perikatan Nasional government is a cooperation between BN, PAS, Bersatu, GPS and several former PKR leaders.
In immediate response to the councillors' dismissals, Perak Amanah youth chief Khairol Najib Hashim thanked the councillors for their services.
"I am sure that your performance as councillors is the best and worthy of praise, because you have performed your duty with trust and dedication.
"Only Allah can repay your contributions to our beloved Perak," he said in a statement.
