If King can follow SOPs, why not minister, asks Guan Eng

Lim Guan Eng asks if Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali considers himself enjoying special status.
PETALING JAYA: Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali has been urged to learn from the example set by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, who quarantined himself for 14 days after a palace staff tested positive for Covid-19.
In a statement, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng criticised Khairuddin for continuing to defend himself after coming under fire for not complying with Covid-19 protocols upon returning from Turkey.
“Khairuddin still refuses to see that whether he tested negative (for Covid-19) or not is not the issue.
“The issue is why he and his family were not subjected to the 14-day quarantine order,” he said.
Lim said there were clearly double standards in the enforcement of the law where action is taken against ordinary people but not ministers.
He said Khairuddin should learn from the King, who imposed on himself a 14-day quarantine after a palace staff tested positive for the virus.
“If the Agong can comply with Covid-19 safety protocols despite enjoying legal immunity, why not Khairuddin? Or does Khairudin consider himself enjoying special status?
“This is no longer a question about punishing Khairuddin for his wrongdoing, but also about whether he is fit and proper to be a minister in His Majesty’s government.”
Previously, Harian Metro reported that Khairuddin had travelled to Turkey with the prime minister’s permission as the country was categorised as a green zone.
The report also said Khairuddin was not required to undergo quarantine as he had tested negative for Covid-19 upon his return at KLIA.
In Kota Bharu, Kelantan, de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan said an investigation should be conducted to determine if there is a case against Khairuddin.
“Let’s leave the matter to the authorities such as the health ministry and police to investigate and decide,” Bernama quoted him as saying after officiating an event. - FMT
