Police investigations have revealed that Muhammad Riduan Abdullah, the ex-husband of Indira Gandhi, is no longer in the country, said the Home Ministry.
Muhammad Riduan is in possession of the couple's youngest daughter Prasana Diksa, whom the Federal Court had ordered to be returned to the mother back in 2016.
"Currently, based on police investigations, Muhammad Ridzuan (sic) is not in Malaysia, and does not stay in one place abroad, but moves from one place to another in an effort to prevent detection, and making it difficult for authorities to investigate," the Home Ministry said in a written reply yesterday.
The ministry added that police were working with counterparts in neighbouring countries to pinpoint his location, and that he would be brought to face the law if he returns to Malaysia.
The country Riduan is currently in was not disclosed.
Previously in January, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Abdul Hamid Bador said he knew where Riduan was and urged him to come forward to solve his custody dispute with Indira amicably.
Hamid's predecessor, Mohamad Fuzi Harun had in 2018 said that Riduan was still in Malaysia.
Riduan, who was formerly known as K Pathmanathan, took Prasana away in 2009 when she was 11-months-old, shortly after he converted to Islam.
In 2016, the Federal Court instructed then IGP Khalid Abu Bakar to arrest Muhammad Riduan and reinstated a mandamus order issued by the Ipoh High Court two years earlier for Prasana’s retrieval.
A mandamus order is a court order compelling a government official to properly fulfil their official duties.
In January 2018, the Apex court also nullified the conversion of Prasana and her two elder siblings to Islam.
Indira has vowed to go on a hunger strike if the IGP does not fulfil his promise of meeting and informing her about Prasana by Aug 31.
