Pink wristband - Frenchman allowed to self-quarantine, says Langkawi OCPD

Malaysiakini

A French citizen who was spotted wearing a pink wristband at the Langkawi International Airport was on his way to self-quarantine at his home in Langkawi.
“Investigations found that the subject took a Qatar Airways flight on Aug 19 from Paris to Kuala Lumpur via Doha. The subject arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Aug 20 at 8.25 am.
“At KLIA, the subject was screened by the Health Ministry and the results were negative for Covid-19.
“The subject was then ordered to self-quarantine at his house in Langkawi,” Langkawi OCPD Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said in a statement today.
He said the police were alerted to the French citizen’s presence at the Langkawi airport by an auxiliary police officer who spotted the 64-year-old man wearing a pink wristband.
Police investigations also found that the Health Ministry had instructed the man to present himself at the Kedah National Crisis Preparedness and Emergency Response Centre (CPRC) on Sept 1.
The man will be required to undergo a second Covid-19 swab on Sept 2, Iqbal said.
“Langkawi Health Ministry officials had contacted KLIA Health Ministry officials and received approval for the subject to self-quarantine at his address,” Iqbal added.
He said police and Langkawi Health Ministry officials would monitor the man from time to time to ensure he complies with the quarantine order.
“My advice is for netizens not to panic and always practice the Health Ministry’s standard operating procedures (SOP) the entire time they are in Langkawi,” he said.
Malaysiakini has contacted the Health Ministry’s director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah to clarify why this French citizen was allowed to self-quarantine at home.
This is because the government had made it compulsory for everyone returning from overseas from July 24 to undergo a 14-day quarantine at designated centres.
This was implemented after a number of cases of individuals not complying with the previous home quarantine order and were seen in public places during their quarantine period. - Mkini
