Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will be making a televised address at 8pm tonight on the recovery movement control order (MCO), ahead of its scheduled expiry on Monday.
The MCO, a regulation which draws power from the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988, was enforced on March 18, after three days of triple-digit new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the country.
This regulation had shut down most of the economy and put in place strict stay-at-home orders.
The MCO was followed by the conditional MCO on May 4 and the recovery MCO on June 9, which gradually opened up the economy.
Currently, the recovery MCO places requirements on donning face masks in public and the use of MySejahtera contact tracing application at business premises.
Restrictions include the temporary banning of organised spectator sports, midnight closing times for entertainment outlets and limiting the number of people at houses of worship, among others.
There has not been any new death attributed to Covid-19 in 30 days and the number of new cases on a seven-day average has dropped to eight.
However, in recent weeks, new clusters have emerged in northern Peninsular Malaysia and several places are under strict lockdown rules in what is known as "targeted" MCO. - Mkini
