Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) has called for the spouses of frontliners and civil servants with young children to be given priority when it comes to implementing work from home (WFH) during the conditional movement control order (MCO) period.
Department heads must also reschedule duties of staff allowed to work from the office or in the field accordingly, said Cuepacs president Adnan Mat in a statement today.
"This is to ensure that delivery to the rakyat is not affected during the MCO period.
Adnan added that department heads should ensure that employees in administrative and management positions who are not required to be in the field or office are selected for the WFH order.
"This can be done through a rotation or permanent basis so their presence at the office can be optimised to about 30 percent of the headcount," he said.
Adnan was referring to the work attendance instructions issued by the Public Service Department (PSD) to be implemented in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Selangor, Labuan and Sabah.
Today, PSD director-general Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman announced that public sector offices are allowed a maximum of 30percent of staff to be physically present from tomorrow onwards.
Adnan said he was confident that civil servants would not face many difficulties in adapting to the WHF order as this had been done during the MCO in March.
Adnan also called on members of the public to reschedule their visits to government offices wherever possible to avoid overcrowding during this period.
"The priority of the public service at this time is to provide the best service to the people and at the same time, break the chain of transmission of Covid-19.
"All parties must work together to ensure that efforts to redevelop the country's economy can be implemented immediately," he added. - Mkini
