Selangor police have arrested eight individuals in relation to the recent water contamination of raw water sources which affected more than a million users in the Klang Valley.
Selangor criminal investigation department chief Fadzil Ahmat said the preliminary investigation showed that the contamination was suspected to have originated from a factory repairing and selling construction machinery in Rawang.
Following that, the police nabbed two suspects, a 62-year-old man and his son, 31, who is the company director. They were picked up in Rawang at 11.30am.
The police also arrested six workers, including two locals and six foreign workers from Nepal, Pakistan, and Myanmar.
"They all will be remanded on Oct 22 at the Selayang court. The investigation is under Section 430 of the penal code," he said.
On Oct 19, the water treatment plants were shut down due to contamination of raw water sources.
As a result, a total of 1,196,457 users involving 1,292 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Gombak, and Kuala Langat were affected. - Mkini
