KOTA KINABALU: An assistant information communication technology (ICT) officer was charged with 11 counts of receiving gratification for himself involving several contracts worth over RM36,600 at the Special Corruption Court here, today.
Mohd Hizan Laliman, 40, however pleaded not guilty after the charges were read before judge Abu Bakar Manat.
His offences were framed under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act for abusing his position for his own benefit.
According to the charge sheet, Hizan allegedly used his position to secure the execution of 11 supply and maintenance services worth RM36,617.20 for Mutiara Enterprise, whose owner is the accused's mother.
He allegedly committed the offence at the Pejabat Institusi Tadbiran Awam Negara Intan Kampus Sabah in Jalan Sulaman in Tuaran, from Feb 20, 2013 to Sept 25, 2015.
Prosecuting officer Rekhraj Singh prosecuted for MACC, while Hizan was represented by counsel Mohd Ari Nazrah.
The court fixed RM15,000 bail with one surety for the accused.
Abu Bakar also ordered Hizan to surrender his passport and to report to the Kota Kinabalu MACC office once every two months.
The court fixed March 31 for case management.
Yesterday, the graft busters detained Hizan at the MACC office to facilitate investigations after he was found to have allegedly given several contracts to his family members
He had allegedly given contracts for food supply as well as ICT equipment supply and repairs. - NST
